Palliative Care Consult Service Mission Statement

“The mission of this website is to provide a forum for faculty and staff with an interest in end of life themes and issues and to identify other individuals with these common interests in order to improve communication throughout the campus on end of life topics and promote collaboration in this area of inquiry and discussion. Ultimately we seek to provide a unified site on campus to explore themes at end of life and examine how the end of life as a unifying theme is reflected in cultures, societies, and populations throughout the world.”Physicians may refer patients to the service by calling 919-843-3650.

Laura Hanson, MD, Stephen Bernard, MD, and Gary Winzelberg, MD

Teams of nurses, doctors, social workers, and therapists from many fields, all of whom have extensive knowledge and training in end-of-life and palliative care, support patients with life-threatening and painful illnesses. In addition to the clinical service, the team provides education to physicians, nurses, health professions students, trainees, and community groups on pain management, symptom care, and emotional and spiritual support during the end of life. Physicians may refer patients to the service by calling 919-216-1549.
