WelcomeWelcome to the Beyond Clinic Walls (BCW) website, and thank you for your interest in BCW! BCW takes students out of the traditional setting of a classroom and partners them in the community with older adults. Interdisciplinary teams of students, who are early in their training, visit older patients in their homes, form rich relationships, provide in-depth assessments, and coordinate their care with referring practitioners, families, and community services. Below is a link to a pdf of the 2nd edition of Beyond Clinic Walls, a manual that describes the creation of the UNC-CH School of Medicine program, developed by the student group Mobile Student Health Action Coalition (MSHAC), to partner students with older adults who have been identified as needing home visits for the upgrading and improvement of their health care. Beyond Clinic Walls is intended to help schools who wish to create such a program at their institution, to do so successfully. See presentations about Beyond Clinic Walls This website is designed to provide you with the information necessary to develop and implement a successful BCW program at your school. You will also find a section that includes examples drawn from UNC’s BCW program and examples of helpful documents and forms that are downloadable. You may choose to access the material contained on this site in three different ways.
