Student Training

Both historically and at present, the number of students planning careers in aging falls well below projected needs. Moreover, the influx of minority students to careers in aging and in rural health has remained very disappointing. To address these issue, CGEC consortium members are actively recruiting students via geriatrics awareness campaigns and other strategies. Once identified, students are linked to interdisciplinary geriatrics education opportunities within the University and in clinical settings, including those in rural and underserved areas. The program also provides students and residents with hands-on, clinical and/or service-learning experiences.

The Carolina Geriatric Education Center is administered through the Center for Aging and Health at the UNC-CH School of Medicine. Please contact Rebecca Hunter, MEd, if you want more information.
