UNC GME Policies
Leave of Absence and Extended Training Requirements
Fellows in geriatric medicine are required to complete 12 months of clinical training in order to be eligible to sit for the Geriatric Board exam. If a fellow misses more than 1 month of clinical training, they will be required to extend their training in order to meet this expectation. For time less than a month, as per ABIM and ABFM guidelines, the Program Director and Clinical Competency Committee will review the fellow's performance to determine whether or not the fellow needs to extend training. For full review of this policy, please see the ABIM website for requirements: http://www.abim.org/certification/policies/imss/geri.aspx
