Dr. McBride graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1982, completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Virginia in 1986, is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He practiced family medicine in Raleigh from 1986 to 1998 with Raleigh Family Physicians, attending at Wake Med, Raleigh Community Hospital, and Rex Hospital, and serving in numerous leadership capacities, including President of the Medical Staff of Raleigh Community Hospital.  From 1998 to 2011, he held various administrative and executive positions, including medical director at WellPath Community Health Plans and CIGNA HealthCare of NC, as well as Chief Medical Officer for Landacorp and, most recently, INSPIRIS. He is currently pursuing a geriatric fellowship to refresh his general clinical skills as well as obtain the specialized knowledge and skills specific to the care of older adults.  He also holds an MBA from Kenan-Flagler School of Business at UNC. He is married, with two sons: wife is a pediatrician who practices in Cary, elder son is a mechanical engineer at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock, NC, and younger son is attending medical school at UNC.  He enjoys motorsports, water sports, and the outdoors.
