Residency Training Internal Medicine Residency All Internal Medicine Residents take part in a required 2-4 week rotation in Geriatric Medicine. Residents gain clinical experience in comprehensive geriatric assessment, hospice, long-term care, and management of incontinence. To promote independent scholarship, each resident completes an evidence-based review of a critical clinical question during the rotation. Family Medicine ResidencyFamily Medicine residents concentrate on geriatric assessment, multidisciplinary approaches to care, and instutional and home care. Supplementing clinical experiences are weekly seminars, the Program on Aging Lecture Series, Grand Rounds, Daily Psychiatric Rounds, and Journal Clubs. Hubbard ProgramThis program trains students from multiple disciplines to work collaboratively in caring for older patients. Through in-home assessments, trainees gain clinical geriatrics knowledge while fostering an appreciation for the patient's family, environment and home as a context for care decisions. Practitioners and students in the Hubbard Program meet weekly with older adults in the community, often creating a care plan and making suggestions to primary care providers. Members of the Hubbard team work closely with the UNC's Student Health Action Coalition, the oldest student-run health clinic in the country.
