Conference for Medical Students Entering 3rd or 4th Year!

The 2008 Summer Institute in Geriatric Medicine at Boston University Medical Center will be held June 23– 27, 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts .  This program is sponsored by the American Geriatrics Society and the Boston University School of Medicine, with funding from the National Institute on Aging.

The conference is for medical students who want to pursue a career in academic geriatric medicine and geriatric research.  Activities of the Summer Institute include clinical and research seminars on key geriatrics/aging topics, site visits to research and clinical programs, and small group development of a research proposal.  Faculty members will include nationally recognized academic geriatricians and Boston University faculty conducting aging research.

A maximum of 20 students will be selected to participate in this program.  Please note that applications must be received by Monday, January 28, 2008.  Full financial support will be provided.

The 2008 Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program

The Medical Student Training in Aging Research Program
A paid, eight- to twelve-week structured research, clinical, and didactic program in geriatrics

MSTAR is a program administered by the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA).

UNC-CH is one of the sites where this training can be done. Email the Chief of Geriatric Medicine, Jan Busby-Whitehead, MD, for information.

Students who have completed one year of medical school by June 2008 are eligible to apply for this training with a stipend of approximately $1,731 per month.
The deadline for application is February 7, 2008. Up to 120 scholarships will be awarded.
