Conference for Medical Students
Entering 3rd or 4th Year!

The 2008 Summer Institute in Geriatric Medicine at Boston University Medical Center will probably be in June, as it was in 2007. We will get specific dates to you as soon as we have them..  This program is sponsored by the American Geriatrics Society and the Boston University School of Medicine, with funding from the National Institute on Aging.

The conference is for medical students who want to pursue a career in academic geriatric medicine and geriatric research.  Activities of the Summer Institute include clinical and research seminars on key geriatrics/aging topics, site visits to research and clinical programs, and small group development of a research proposal.  Faculty members will include nationally recognized academic geriatricians and Boston University faculty conducting aging research.

Full financial support will be provided.

If you would like additional information please feel free to contact the BU School of Medicine office at (617) 638-6109 or the AGS office at 212-308-1414.  A downloadable PDF application form is available on the UNC-CH student chapter of AGS website at www.med.unc.edu/ags/BUapplication07.pdf and on the AGS website at:

MSTAR - Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program
To encourage medical students - particularly budding researchers - to consider a career in academic geriatrics, this program awards short-term scholarships. AFAR has partnered with the NIA and several foundations to continue and strengthen the original Hartford/AFAR Medical Student Geriatric Scholars Program. The deadline for the MSTAR program is February 7, 2008.  We will post the guidelines and the web-based application when they are available.
