AGS Leaders - Info on new 2007 - 2008 leaders

BIO of Alex Sheng, Chapter Leader 2007 - 2008
From: China and Canada and Apex, NC, USA
Undergrad: UNC-CH
Degree: Biology
Greetings! My name is Alex Sheng. I am 22 years old. I am a first year medical student at UNC-CH. School of Medicine. I was born in China, grew up in Canada, and went to high school and college in North Carolina. I graduated with a biology degree last year in May from UNC-CH. My parents currently reside in Apex, NC, where I went to high school. Currently, everything in medicine is fresh and exciting to me. I am not set on any specific specialty or career path yet. However, transplant surgery, psychiatry, geriatrics, dermatology and emergency medicine are especially interesting at the moment. I find working with elderly patients both intellectually challenging and especially rewarding. I love to hear stories and life experiences that elders often share.

BIO of Michael Adelman, Chapter Leader 2007 - 2008
From: New York, NY, USA
Undergrad: North Carolina State University
My name is Mike Adelman and I’m excited to be a part of AGS in the upcoming year. I was born in New York, have lived in NC for almost 10 years now, and hail from Durham. During 2 years of my time as an undergraduate at NCSU, I spent an afternoon every week volunteering at an assisted living center in Raleigh. I learned so much and had the privilege of listening to some wonderful stories during afternoons with the residents. I gained an appreciation for the wealth of wisdom that many of us miss because we are too busy to take the time to simply sit and listen. I am excited to learn more about geriatric medicine with all of you who take part in AGS, and am looking forward to a wonderful year!

BIO of Kathryn Cziraky (MS2), President of the Chapter, 2006 - 2007
From: Raleigh, NC, USA
Undergrad: Appalachian State University
Degree: Exercise Science
Why Medicine?: Provide compassion and quality care in a primary care setting Medical School is showing me that medicine is a great logic puzzle in that one must put all the pieces put together in the correct manner (using a good patient history and physical exam) in order to come up with the best patient diagnosis. Care of the older patient requires good diagnostic ability perhaps more than usual, due to often multiple problems and multiple medications.

BIO of Joseph Hoyle (MS2) Vice President of the Chapter, 2006 - 2007
From: Chapel Hill, NC, USA
Undergrad: UNC-Chapel Hill
Degree: Biostatistics
High school: Chattanooga, TennesseeMedical school is exciting and the medical field offers lots of opportunities. I am currently involved with the Department of Family Medicine (as community service officer) and am doing ophthalmology research.
