"It's the Big One, Elizabeth!" - Helping NC Hospitals Plan for Information Access Following Disaster

Supported by a grant from the Regional Medical Libraries of the National Network of the Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), “It’s a Big One, Elizabeth!” kicked off efforts to organize NC hospitals based on the AHEC Library Network for emergency information access coverage. Speakers in both Raleigh and Charlotte included Dan Wilson, NN/LM National Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan Coordinator, and Barbara Bisset, Executive Director, Emergency Services Institute, WakeMed Health & Hospitals.

Hosted by Melanie Norton, UNC HSL, and Susan Hardee, Wake AHEC, NC co-representatives for Emergency Preparedness in the SE/A Region of the NN/LM, the program brought together AHEC and hospital librarians and emergency preparedness personnel from NC hospitals and NC regional EMS. The successful meeting format now serves as a template for similar programs in other states. Efforts continue to bring a plan into place for all of North Carolina.
