Northwest AHEC Moves to the Deacon Tower at BB&T Field
On February 25, 2011, Northwest AHEC and the Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) moved from their location of almost eight years at Reynolda Business Center to their new home at the Deacon Tower at BB&T Field (photos right). All of the phone and fax numbers remain the same, as the staff gets settled into its new “digs” now located at 475 Deacon Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. All US mail and packages should still to be sent to the same Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1060 address.
This new space is the venue for Wake Forest (WF) football which is also conveniently located adjacent to the WF baseball field and across the street from the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum where WF plays basketball. Northwest AHEC and OCME are now located in the heart of what will soon become the Deacon Village. The move was part of an economic development initiative supported by Governor Beverly Perdue to relocate a Pepsi Call Center to Winston-Salem.
A few interesting move facts/move metrics:
This is the 5th move for Northwest AHEC in its 37 years of operations
The total bricks/mortar upfit as well as all similar technology infrastructure costs as we had at our previous location was provided by the University
Move was completed in 2 days
Exploration of future space, move decision, move planning time and move was a 9 month process
More than 200 plastic moving bins (3 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet) were used
Staff thoroughly purged/cleaned up paper files and shredded 6,000 lbs or almost 3 tons of paper.
Deacon Tower, built in 2008, is 125 feet tall with more than 120,000 square feet.
