The Economic Impact of Health Disparities 2011 Health Summit

On behalf of the NC AHEC Program and WakeMed, Wake AHEC managed the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation’s The Economic Impact of Health Disparities 2011 Health Summit on January 7 – 8, 2011 in Raleigh.

One hundred seventy-eight congressional and state leaders, community partners, health care providers, business leaders, and citizens alike, came together to identify strategies that promote health and well-being for racial and ethnic minorities; and began developing a strategic action plan to reduce the economic impact of these disparities in their respective communities at the two-day summit. Through panel and roundtable discussions, working sessions and keynote presentations, participants were able to share ideas and resources to aid them in developing a strategic action plan to address these disparities in their communities and across the state. Speakers at the event included: NC AHEC Director Tom Bacon, Secretary of the NC Department of Health and Human Services Lanier Cansler, and NC Division of Public Health's State Health Director Dr. Jeffrey Engel.
