Wake AHEC Partners with Salvation Army
On May 6, 2011, Wake AHEC partnered with Salvation Army to provide a program titled “Stolen Childhoods: Understanding the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of America’s Children.” The speaker was Salvation Army's Alesia Adams from Atlanta, Georgia. Adams is the territorial services coordinator against human and sexual trafficking. She is part of Salvation Army’s team that targets young girls and women who may be involved in sex trafficking. This is the fourth program offered on this topic in the past two years. Each one has focused on providing information on this rising public health concern and has drawn participants from all disciplines including law enforcement, legal, pastoral care and medicine. The program emphasized the role each can play in becoming an integral part of a network actively involved in providing services for this special needs population.
