MAHEC Receives HRSA Outstanding Performance Award

Last year, a team from Mountain AHEC, Mission Hospital, and the Buncombe County Council on Aging was accepted into the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy (PSCP) Collaborative. In October 2010, the team received the Outstanding Performance Award from HRSA - the highest award given. Their project focused on improving continuity of care and medication access for seniors in the "doughnut hole." The goal of the project was to prevent any gaps in medication therapy that may occur when patients fall into the coverage gap and are no longer able to afford their medications.

MAHEC’s Director of Pharmacotherapy Mollie Scott, PharmD, BCPS, CPP, said, "We were fortunate to be part of the HRSA program and are very pleased that our collaborative work was recognized with their highest honor." Joining Scott on the interdisciplinary project team were Anna Garrett, PharmD, BCPS, Ben Smith, PharmD, Matt Ransom, PharmD, Charlene Williams, PharmD, BCPS, Wendy Sause, MSW, Kay Mantiply-Clark, GNP, Rachel Selinger, PharmD, and Rebecca Grandy, PharmD.
