Wilmington Hosts Trauma and Emergency Symposium

On February 10 and 11, 2012, regional and national speakers met at the 23rd Annual Trauma and Emergency Symposium in Wilmington, NC, to share their experiences and expertise in dealing with traumatic events.

For first responders, medical professionals, health care providers, and the public, this was a rare opportunity to hear from Peter Rhee, MD, MPH, on US Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s shooting, Jeff Hamilton on the Joplin Missouri tornado aftermath, and Lawrence Dauer, PhD, on the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility disaster.

Focusing this year on “Care Through the Continuum,” this symposium covers topics ranging from those first on the scene to professionals providing treatment to the in-home and outpatient caregivers who help victims get back on their feet. Sponsored by New Hanover Regional Medical Center and South East AHEC, the symposium features 40 large scale exhibitors representing hospitals, medical equipment distributors, suppliers and transport providers.
