Basnight Appointed Executive Director of Eastern AHEC

Lorrie Basnight, MD, FAAPOn August 5, 2013, Lynda (Lorrie) Lorraine Basnight, MD, FAAP, was announced as executive director of Eastern AHEC and associate dean of continuing medical education at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Basnight (photo right) completed her medical degree at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1990 and a Family Medicine Internship at the Medical Center of Delaware in 1991. She completed her pediatric residency training in 1993 at Thomas Jefferson University Medical Center where she also served as Chief Resident from 1994–1995.

Basnight joined the Brody School of Medicine in 1995 as an assistant professor, department of pediatrics. From 1996–2004 she held various leadership roles in the department of pediatrics including director of the pediatric clerkship, director of pediatric residency, and associate chair of pediatric education. In 2002, Basnight was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor, department of pediatrics, where she continues to be involved in direct patient care.

Her research efforts include numerous grants, publications, abstracts, presentations, and book chapters. Basnight’s local, state, and national service is also extensive including, but not limited to, service with the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics, AAMC Workgroup on Resident Affairs, National Center of Leadership in Academic Medicine Steering Committee, JCAHO Preparation Committee, and Chief of Staff for Vidant Medical Center.

In 2005, Basnight was appointed associate dean of graduate medical education, Brody School of Medicine and designated intuitional official, Vidant Medical Center, giving her unique and exceptional expertise that directly translates to the role as executive director of Eastern AHEC and associate dean of continuing medical education.
