University Physicians Endocrinology Division (SEAHEC) Receives Accreditation

The Endocrinology Division at University Physicians (South East AHEC) has been awarded a four-year accreditation from the American Association of Diabetes Educators for their Diabetes Self Management Training Program. University Physicians has met national standards for providing comprehensive and exemplary diabetes self management education to patients.

The Diabetes Self Management Training Program will be managed by Linda Wooley, RN, BSN, CDE, who is a Nationally Certified Diabetes Educator. She is also an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring systems trainer. Through this ongoing education program, Wooley teaches patients about blood sugar self monitoring, managing medications, healthy eating, preventing complications, and using physical activity to lower blood sugars. Wooley’s services are available to patients throughout the community through classes or individual sessions.

“The Division of Endocrinology is excited to receive accreditation for the Diabetes Self Management Program. The mission of this program is to increase knowledge about diabetes and to teach diabetes self management skills to patients so they will become empowered to prevent complications and improve their overall health,” says endocrinologist Maya Peltsverger, MD. “With the increase in incidence of diabetes throughout the nation, programs like ours are vital in improving the overall health of our community,” adds Peltsverger.
