Durham County | Duke AHEC Program
Pamela Wimbush, parent of health careers student
“My daughter, Tamela Wimbush, continues to gain valuable knowledge as a member of the Duke AHEC Health Careers and Workforce Diversity Program. Tamela has been a product of the program since her freshman year. I remember Tamela’s sheer excitement when she learned of her acceptance.
“The Duke AHEC Program fosters several of Tamela’s interests. Because she was born prematurely, she has a fond interest in neonatology and working with children. Program advisers provided Tamela and other participants a unique opportunity to visit the neonatal intensive care unit of Duke Hospital. Tamela continues to speak about what she calls a ‘moving experience.’ The advisers at the Duke AHEC Program are nothing but supportive of Tamela’s desires in the medical field.
“Tamela participated in several leadership conferences held on college campuses in North Carolina that were sponsored by the Duke AHEC Program. Not only has my daughter benefited from the program, I have seen firsthand how others have benefited as well. The Duke AHEC Health Careers and Workforce Diversity Program continues to seek opportunities that allow youth who have the desire to broaden their awareness of health care in North Carolina.”
