Letter from the Associate Dean and Chair
Welcome to the Department of Allied Health Sciences at UNC – Chapel Hill!
Whether you are a potential student, returning student, alumnus, faculty colleague, or just a curious visitor, I hope you will find the information you are seeking on these pages.
This is a very dynamic and exciting time for the allied health professions. Nationally, there is growing recognition of the important roles these professionals play in the delivery of high quality, affordable health care. Here in North Carolina, there is high demand for allied health practitioners and leadership personnel in all regions of the state; and job opportunities abound in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, schools and many other venues. To learn more about the allied health work force in our state, you can visit the website for the Council for Allied Health in North Carolina.
The Department of Allied Health Sciences at UNC – Chapel Hill has always attracted outstanding students; and the alumni from our degree and certificate programs are highly sought for their excellent academic and clinical preparation, and their leadership skills. Our faculty are engaged in exciting research related to all aspects of allied health practice, including stroke rehabilitation, literacy access for children with severe disabilities, sensory development in children with autism, optimizing living environments for the elderly, treatment of musculo-skeletal disorders, and much more! As Chair of this Department, I am very proud of the many accomplishments of the students, faculty, and alumni from each of our Divisions. I hope you will visit their web pages to learn more about their excellent educational offerings, research, and clinical services.
