- Manage development and communication efforts of seven divisions of the Department of Allied Health Sciences through coordination with department chair and division directors
- Establish and manage accounts at the Medical Foundation for each division
- Create fundraising materials such as individual division newsletters, alumni and building funds, and division brochures
- Facilitate and manage the organization of various committees within the divisions to enhance development efforts
- Work with major donors and prospects to establish funding vehicles for the department and divisions
Kyle Gray became the Director of Development for the Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) at Carolina’s School of Medicine in January 2006. Gray comes to AHS with a background in higher education fundraising, communications, and research. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Dean for Development and Communications at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Government from 2001-2005, where he launched and managed the Friends of the Institute of Government Program to increase public and private financial support for the school. Previously Gray coordinated a study of after-school programs for the Governor's Crime Commission at the UNC-Chapel Hill Center for Urban and Regional Studies. Prior to coming to North Carolina, Gray served as a career specialist and job developer for the Boston Private Industry Council at Boston Latin School and as a senior program instructor for the Close-Up Foundation in Washington, DC. Gray graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 with a master's degree in public administration and from the Colorado College in 1989 with a BA in political science.

SUMMARY OF RESEARCH INTEREST: Movement control in able-bodied humans and humans with neurological dysfunction are the focus of research program. More specifically, would like to understand interaction of Spinal Circuits and Supraspinal Systems during upper limb movements. Studies to understand this interaction include anatomical (DISSECTION AND MRI) and electrophysiological studies to identify the neuromuscular elements that interact with spinal circuits, and what principles govern their coordination. Studies are also underway to understand Plasticity of Spinal Circuits, including those underlying stretch reflexes. These studies utilize operant conditioning of reflexes that may be useful for the functional training of newly formed connections in spinal cord injured patients if regeneration can be induced. The operant conditioning studies will also be useful in determining the relationship of spinal circuits and voluntary movement.
