Students who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) face numerous challenges when communicating, accessing academic curriculum, and relaying their wants, needs, and thoughts. Choosing core vocabulary that addresses the multiple communicative needs of the AAC user is a complex task. This presentation will describe the ways in which core vocabulary can be selected for secondary students to allow for access across a variety of environments.
