Paraeducators make up a significant percentage of the special education workforce, but research about this essential group of personnel is scant. This study uses participant observation and interviews to shed light on some of the issues faced by paraeducators and teachers negotiating paraeducator roles and responsibilities as they collaborate to educate students with severe disabilities.
