East Carolina University Teacher Support Program for Students with Deafblindness
Eastern Carolina University offers a free Teacher Support Program for families, teachers, administrators, and other professionals working with eastern North Carolina students with deafblindness. They can provide support in a number of areas such as:
- Determining whether children and youth qualify for the deafblind registry,
- Offering on-site consultation and technical assistance
- Implementing communication-based positive support and intervention
- Facilitating communication development
- Using adaptive technology
- Designing evidence-based individualized instructional approaches
- Integrating academic and functional curricula
- Developing IFSP, IEP, and Transition plans
- Improving functional vision, hearing, and sensory integration
- Facilitating inclusion
- Engaging in assessment and person-centered planning
