Reading Assessment and Assistive Technology: A Three-Part Video Presentation

Addressing the literacy and literacy-related technology needs of struggling readers does not have to be based on trial and error. This three-part video begins with a framework for understanding what is required for successful silent reading comprehension. In the second part, viewers will learn specific strategies to determine an individual student’s reading instructional needs. Finally, the third part provides guiding questions that link individual student strengths and weaknesses in reading with assistive technology decision-making. (The set includes three separate videos, each about 30 minutes in length.)

CD-Based Instructional Resources

Writing with Alternative Pencils

To address the writing challenges faced by many students with speech, sensory and motor difficulties we have developed a variety of “alternative pencils.” These “pencils” provide students with significant disabilities with access to the alphabet to use for very emergent writing activities.  The CD includes printable files and directions for making 6 alternative pencils. Each of the six options is accompanied by a brief guide, which includes teaching strategies, sample goals, writing activities and actual student writing samples. Download an order form.
