Dr. Susan Beck Receives First Annual DAHS Leadership Award

Dr. Susan Beck was recently honored with the first annual DAHS Leadership Award.  This award recognizes Dr. Beck's demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service; as well as her sustained and ongoing contributions to the profession of Clinical Laboratory Science and the mission of the Department of Allied Health Sciences.

Dr. Beck has been a member of the faculty in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) for 36 years.  She has served as the CLS Program Director for 23 years, and has been a full professor for 16. During her time as Division Director, the degree programs offered by the Division have consistently received long term, meritorious accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS). In the most recent NAACLS site visit report (2016), it was noted by the reviewers: “The Program Director's leadership and involvement with all aspects of the program provides for an excellent educational experience and continuing faculty development. The site team was very impressed with her fundraising abilities and alumni involvement with the program.”

Dr. Beck currently serves the Department of Allied Health Sciences as the Associate Chairperson for Academic Affairs, overseeing a wide variety of issues related to curriculum, student appeals, and academic policies. In this role, she works to encourage and strengthen education in the Department as a whole.

In the Clinical Laboratory Science profession, Dr. Beck is nationally recognized as a consistent leader, serving for over 20 years with the National Credentialing Agency and currently serving as a member of the Board of Certification for the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She has authored many articles in professional journals, co-authored a textbook on education, and regularly presents at state and national meetings.
