Dr. Tara Moon, assistant professor in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science, was awarded the Frances K. Widmann Service Award at the fall meeting of the North Carolina Association of Blood Bankers (NCABB). Moon was commended for a decade of leadership in the NCABB including service as board member, workshop program chair, secretary, and as president. She continues to serve the organization as secretary. NCABB members praised Moon for her innovative ideas and for the many improvements she made in the organization. She is respected by colleagues with NCABB and in the greater laboratory community for her advocacy and commitment to professional excellence.

The Frances K. Widmann Service Award honors members who have given their time, energy, and support of the NCABB. The award is named in honor of Dr. Frances K. Widmann, an original member of the NCABB. Widmann’s life work reflected the organization’s mission. Involved in education throughout her career, she trained laboratory technologists and pathologists at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University.

The NCABB is more than 40 years old and is an active, educational, nonprofit organization of individual blood bankers in North Carolina.
