The Mitchell Symposium in Occupational Science is named in honor and memory of Dr. Marlys Mitchell, the founder of the master’s program in Occupational Therapy at UNC-Chapel Hill, and her husband, Earl, a great supporter of Marlys’ work (and of occupational therapy). Symposium scholars deliver a public lecture and participate in talks, discussions, and meetings with faculty, students, and researchers from throughout Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and the Department of Allied Health Sciences. Initiated in 2011, the symposium has been made possible through generous gifts from friends and alumni of the division.

NC TraCS is largely funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences’ (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program for which a new RFA has just been released. Over the next two years, the resources and services offered at TraCS will be modified in order to be more responsive to the RFA in preparation for our refunding efforts. This will require greater focus on activities across the consortium of 62 CTSA sites to prepare for greater capacity and responsiveness in national efforts to translate science to improve human health. Come learn about, ask questions about, and provide insights on the Trial Innovation Network (TIN), new from NCATS.

October 26 forum will feature a special presentation from Nathan Blouin, Deputy Director at UNC Office of Research Development. Nathan will discuss how the ORD works closely with researchers across campus to connect their research ideas to extramural funding and researcher-team building.
