SOM ID Badges

Each of you will recieve a SOM picture ID badge that will serve as identification as well as your building

access card. With your ID badge you will be able to enter Bondurant Hall 24/7. ID Badge Forms

You do NOT complete the entire form only the following sections:

If you are a current employee of the Hospital or School and have an ID badge, complete section 2; otherwise ONLY complete sections 3, 4, 7: only DOB and 8. Please sign and date the form before sending it back.

UNC One Card and Student Email

Please visit the UNC One Card website to find out more about your student ID and the access that it grants you. You can also add monetary value to your card at this site. Any amount that you add to your card can be used toward copies, food purchases at university cafeterias and coffee/snack bars, or purchases at student stores.

All OS students are required to have and maintain a School of Medicine email account. This account will be set up for you and will be assigned to you on your first day of orientation. Students will receive course and division communication through this email on a regular basis. Students should check this email AND their mailboxes located on the ground floor of Bondurant Hall, at least every other day.

ONYEN Accounts

Every OS student needs to set up their ONYEN account in order to gain access to UNC Electronic Services that require passwords, such as MyUNC, Student Central, some library services, webmail & web hosting. Your ONYEN (or the "O"nly "N"ame "Y"ou'll "E"ver "N"eed) will serve as a universal username which you will use, along with your password, to gain access to these and other services that are available to UNC students via the internet.

The email account that you are given along with your ONYEN is different from the SOM email account that you are required to have. This second email account is available to you for personal use or you can simply leave it inactive.

Special Accommodations

If you have a functional limitation that will require special accommodations we want to be sure that you have the necessary services. While the OS Division faculty will help you to develop and implement accommodations, in order to receive funding and support you need to first work through the UNC-CH Office of Disability Services. Please visit their website. In addition, you may want to contact our office of Learning Disability Services.

Professional Organizations

We encourage our students to become members of professional organizations. Membership applications and information about the many benefits of membership can be found online at www.aota.org and www.ncota.org.

Computer Use

Many of you either own or are planning to purchase a computer for use in graduate school. You can visit the website of the Carolina Computing Initiative that explains the purchasing plans available to Carolina students. You are not required to purchase a computer but having your own computer will be helpful and convenient. There are some computer labs available on campus for student use, however, they are often difficult to access during peak times. Go to the ATN Computer Lab website for a list of computer labs and hours.
