Chinyu Wu, Ph.D., OTR/L
Education PhD in Occupational Therapy, New York University, 1999 Personal Statement I joined the Division of Occupational Science in 2009. I am currently on the tenure track. I find the research environment here at the OS Division and UNC is very friendly and supportive, which is very important to me in pursuing a research career. Courses Taught OCCT 826 Occupational Science I: Adults and Aging (Co-teach with Dr. Dickie) Research/Teaching/Clinical Interests I have been working with people with schizophrenia and their family in the past years, as an occupational therapist and as a researcher. Often I find myself learn from people I work with more then what I can offer, which pushes me to become a better therapist and researcher. In my recent research work, I investigated activity participation, as well as participation restriction, of people with schizophrenia living in the community. A questionnaire has been developed and its validity and reliability have been examined. My former students used my questionnaire in other clinical and non-clinical populations, including depression, substance abuse, and students in elite high schools. I have taught different courses in the past. I am interested in teaching, or talking about, evidence-based practice, research methods (quantitative), philosophy of science, group dynamics, and theories of human motivation.
