7-18-09 Guidance Documents, Forms, and Practice Resources

Best practice in occupational therapy as a related service in schools should be :

  • Student-centered and occupation-based
  • Integrated into the natural environment of the school such as classroom, cafeteria, playground, media center
  • A collaborative partnership with teachers and other educational personnel
  • Focused on functional/educational outcomes; related to NCDPI Standard Course of Study
  • Evidence based

To this end, the following guidance documents are provided for occupational therapy practitioners, EC & school administrators, and families of students with disabilities.  These documents are not NCDPI policy and do not necessarily reflect the views of NCDPI or UNC-CH.  Theses resources are provided to help clarify the role and scope of occupational therapy in schools and meant to serve as tools for OT programs and services.

Practitioners are encouraged to submit forms, tools, and resources relevant to school-based practice for posting and sharing on this site.   By sending resources to lauren_holahan@med.unc.edu, you are:

-agreeing to any/all edits necessary to make resources comply with federal/state policy and best practice standards

-agreeing to have the resource posted on this page

-waiving rights to any benefit or income asssociated with your authorship and/or provision of the document
