Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy
Admissions Process
Online applications for the Transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy (tDPT) program will become available October 1. Applications will be reviewed over the five month period in the order they are received until the class is full. No application will be accepted after February 19.
Preference will be given to applications from currently enrolled UNC-Chapel Hill MPT students if their applications are received by December 3.
Applicants who hold an entry-level Baccalaureate degree in physical therapy should apply for admissions beginning in Summer Session I . Applicants with an entry-level Master's degree in physical therapy should apply for Fall.
Applications will be accepted for Spring 2008 only for those who have completed PHYT 820, Advanced Patient Management I, and PHYT 824, Topics in Health and Wellness. All others should follow the instructions listed above for the appropriate application term.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must show evidence of graduation from a master of physical therapy degree program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education. Applicants who graduated from an entry-level baccalaureate program in physical therapy will be required to complete an additional preparatory program to assure equivalency of their professional training before being considered for the DPT program. Applicants must demonstrate academic and clinical promise as evidence-based practitioners and must also demonstrate licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a physical therapist in a United States jurisdiction in which the applicant plans to complete the DPT clinical requirements (see below).
Admissions Documents to be Submitted
- The Transitional DPT Application (available October 1)*
- Official transcripts of baccalaureate and professional physical therapy degree program*
- Copy of physical therapy license from any US jurisdiction or application for licensure
- Two recommendation letters*
- TOEFL scores for all students for whom English is a second language*
- North Carolina Residency Form
- GRE Scores are NOT required to apply for the transitional DPT program. The application is part of a template for several applications and this portion can not be removed. Please disregard the error message when submitting application.
Applicants with a Bachelor's of Science in Physical Therapy
If your highest level of Physical Therapy training was obtained at the Bachelor's or undergraduate level, you will need to apply for admissions during the Summer Session I. Generalist Practice Review and Evidence Based Practice in Review are required refresher courses offered at the start of the program for those who only have a BS in PT.
