Education and Training:Ph.D., Washington University, St. Louis, MO, August, 1993, Movement Science Rank:Associate Professor Expertise:Postural control in older adults Teaching:PHYT 784 Neuromuscular Assessment and Treatment I HMSC 701 The Scientific Basis of Human Motion Research interests:Primary interests in postural control in older adults and in individuals with neurological disorders, particularly stroke. Previous research has involved analysis of kinematic, electromyographic, and force platform data to understand postural preparation for movement and effects of exercise. More general interests in the areas of motor control, motor learning, and neuromuscular rehabilitation. Current Research:Implementation of fall prevention programs for community dwelling older adults and those in assisted living. Community Health and Mobility Partnership (CHAMP) project in western North Carolina. Representative publications for each area of interest:Mercer VS, Freburger JK, Chang S-H, Purser JL.
