Cathy Howes, PT, DPT, MS, PCS
Cathy graduated with a BS in physical therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University- Medical College of Virginia in 1986. She received her master’s degree in Human Movement Science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1996. She completed her DPT from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2014. She obtained her pediatric Neurodevelopmental Treatment certification in 1991 and became board certified as a Pediatric Clinical Specialist in 2014. Cathy has worked at UNC Hospitals for more than 30 years and developed expertise in treating a variety of pediatric diagnoses with special interests in treating children with spina bifida, cerebral palsy and hemophilia. She has particular interest in orthotics, adaptive equipment, and gait.
Cathy is a member of the APTA and Section on Pediatrics and the NCPTA. Cathy has served as co-chair of the Combined Sections Program Committee for APTA, Section on Pediatrics. She is also a member of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. Cathy has been very involved with clinical education at UNC-CH as a clinical instructor and guest lecturer. She has international volunteer teaching and service learning experience. Cathy was awarded the Margaret Moore Student Recognition Award in 2014 and UNC-CH Clinical Instructor of the Year in 2010.
In her free time, Cathy enjoys traveling, scuba diving and Carolina basketball.
