Academic Courses by Cluster Courses
and Placement Exam
For
the Medical Imaging/RS Major
Medical
Imaging professionals certified by the American Registry
of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography and admitted
to the Radiologic Science major may take the cluster course
series and placement examinations to receive placement credit
for specific radiologic science courses.
A
cluster course is a guided, independent/self-study course
covering content of several general radiography and select
upper divisional components of the Radiologic Science Curriculum.
Each cluster course addresses specific subject matter consequently
the approach to each is different. Information and cluster
course reference guides are made available to each enrolled
RT student upon request.
The
placement examination is a comprehensive assessment
of subject matter covered in a specific course including
both lecture and laboratory portions, e.g., RADI 62, 62
lab.
Medical
Imaging. Each RT who elects cluster courses for advanced
standing credit must complete the clusters and placement
examination at the time designated by Radiologic Science
program. Students do not pay a course or registration fee
for the cluster courses or placement examination.

The
PL (placement) grade will be awarded for each course within
the Clusters and Placement Exam component. Credit received
will count toward fulfillment of the degree requirements
but is not calculated in the grade point average.
Additionally,
the RT who, at time of admission, holds current active ARRT
certification in radiation therapy, nuclear medicine technology,
or ARDMS certification in diagnostic medical sonography,
or by reason of special training or non-traditional educational
experiences has acquired special knowledge, skills, and
abilities may also seek PL credit via Cluster III for senior
courses RADI 583 (six semester hours), and RADI 593 (four
semester hours).
