The Conflict of Interest Office is responsible for implementing the policies and processes related to the integrity of its decision-making processes, along with partnering offices and committees across the University. The Office seeks to be a resource to all individuals and units across campus as they navigate multiple responsibilities and activities, particularly related to sponsored research or human studies research.

Conflicts of Interest

There are three areas or types of conflicts of interest which can arise at the University: individual, organizational, and institutional.



Conflicts of Commitment

The term “conflict of commitment” relates to an employee’s distribution of effort between University Duties or Institutional Responsibilities (primary and secondary), and external professional activities.

Training

Research Conflict of Interest (COI) training should be taken by all individuals involved in research.



Policies

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Policy on Individual Conflicts of Interest (COI) and Commitment (CoC) is a Chancellor-approved policy specific to UNC Chapel Hill.
