Biography

Dr. McKenna joined the faculty of the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2007. She brings with her a diverse background which includes a research career in basic science and many years advocating for children and communities in the non-profit world. Her interests in cognition and hearing in aging, the genetics of hearing loss, and hearing loss prevention reflect this experience. She currently participates in clinical and classroom teaching with the students of the UNC Au.D. program, provides clinical services at the HCC, and works with the School Age Team at the Center for Development and Learning. She also organizes and supervises elementary school hearing screenings. Dr. McKenna is licensed in audiology in both North Carolina and Kansas, which allows her to dispense hearing aids. She is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), the National Hearing Conservation Association, and the American Auditory Society.
