Speech and Hearing AwardsDoctoral Training Grant Funding- The Division of Speech & Hearing Sciences has an excellent record of obtaining doctoral level leadership grants from the U.S. Department of Education and has had continuous funding since the inception of the program in 2002. Funds typically pay for a student stipend, health insurance, in-state tuition, and travel. Out-of-state tuition is typically covered by the Department and Graduate School. Available grant support is noted below: This interdisciplinary program draws on the resources and expertise from the Divisions of Speech and Hearing Sciences and Occupational Science within the School of Medicine; Early Childhood, Families, and Literacy Studies Program in the School of Education, Program in Developmental Psychology, and the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. Grant Faculty include: Elizabeth Crais and Linda Watson from the Division of Speech & Hearing Sciences, Grace Baranek from Occupational Sciences, Harriet Boone and Sam Odom from the School of Education and the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, and Steve Reznick from Developmental Psychology. The grant covers a $14,000 stipend, in-state tuition (the Division and GraduateSchool cover out-of-state tuition), health insurance, and travel. For additional information on this grant(website under construction) Graduate School One-Year Merit Fellowships The Graduate School each year provides merit-based one-year fellowships for doctoral students. All students who apply for admission are eligible and each department nominates their top candidates (Speech and Hearing Sciences is typically allotted 2 nominations). The Division will contact you if you are being nominated for such an award. The awards cover a $15,000 stipend, in-state and out-of-state tuition, and health insurance. The Graduate School will notify you if you are awarded one of the fellowships. Graduate School Five-Year Fellowships The Graduate School each year provides for a small number of five-year fellowships for doctoral students. All students who apply for admission are eligible and each department nominates their top candidates (Speech and Hearing Sciences is typically allotted 2 nominations). The Division will contact you if you are being nominated for such an award. The awards cover $20,000 in stipend, in-state and out-of-state tuition, and health insurance. The Graduate School will notify you if you are awarded one of the fellowships.
