WakeMed is a private, not for profit community hospital servicing Wake County, North Carolina. WakeMed has one of the busiest EDs in the Southeast US. The patient population is very diverse. The attendings are members of the hospitalist group and are UNC faculty members. They very much enjoy teaching and being part of the teaching service.  The upper level residents are UNC Internal Medicine or Med/Peds residents, and the interns come from a variety of disciplines including Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
There are four teams at WakeMed: A,B,C,D. Each team is composed of the Attending, 1 upper level resident, an intern and usually a medical student or acting intern. The call schedule is q4 with a night float system. The teams admit on their call days and short call days. On a call day, each team will take 1-2 floats from the night before + 4 admissions + 2 consults prior to 6 pm. Sign-out to the night float is at 8 pm and the call team should leave by 9 pm. On short call days (the day after post-call day), the team will take typically 1 floated patient +2 admissions by 4 pm. Each team will take an additional floated patient on their post-call day.
