Richard Olsen, Ph.D., received the 2007 Bowles Lectureship Award on December 3 for his significant contributions to our understanding of the causes, prevention and/or treatment of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.

Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies Director Fulton Crews presented Olsen with the Award on UNC campus. After accepting his award, Olsen presented a seminar titled, “GABA-A Receptors: Targets for Acute and Chronic Ethanol.”

Olsen is a professor for the departments of molecular and medical pharmacology, anesthesiology and neuroscience at UCLA. He is the 10th researcher to receive the award that began in 1997.
