Endowment Grants

The Medical Alumni Association established the Medical Alumni Endowment Fund in recognition of the desire of the alumni of the School of Medicine to support academic enrichment programs for the students, faculty and alumni of the institution. The aim of the Endowment Fund Grants are to provide support for: academic research; faculty/resident/student development and enrichment activities; the enrichment of the alumni relationship; identified needs and requirements which will promote excellence in education, research and service to the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the UNC Hospitals. Applications for ongoing operational funds of existing programs or projects are not encouraged.

2008 - 2009 Award Period

During the 2008-2009 fiscal year awards of up to $8,000 each will be available to members of the faculty of the UNC School of Medicine and awards of up to $5,000 each will be available to Fellows and Residents. Awards of $5,000 are also made to students selected by the Carolina Medical Student Research Program. We anticipate awarding 3 grants at the faculty level and 3 grants at the Resident/Fellow level. Awards will be announced by early May and funding will be available on June 1, 2008, provided the necessary account information and institutional approvals have been received in the Medical Alumni Office. All funds are to be expended during the fiscal year of the grant. Awardees are required to submit a year-end report to the Medical Alumni Association Endowment Board within 60 days of the end of the grant period.

Eligibility: current full-time faculty of the School of Medicine and current residents/fellows of UNC Hospitals. This included full-time UNC faculty at AHEC sites.
