How to Apply

The UNC School of Medicine Medical Alumni Loyalty Fund scholarship program was established in 1966 with a modest stipend to six students. Because of generous alumni support, the program now provides over 50 full in-state tuition scholarships per year based on need, merit and/or demonstrated leadership.

A minimum of three (3) scholarships will be awarded to rising 2^nd year students and three (3) scholarships will be awarded to rising 3^rd year students and five (5) scholarships will be awarded to rising 4^th year students.

A committee comprised of representatives from the Office of Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Admissions, Alumni Affairs and the Medical Foundation of North Carolina select recipients. Criteria for selection include demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, leadership qualities and commitment to service. Some scholarships also have additional criteria of career choice or county of residence.

Scholarship recipients should realize that they have a responsibility to contribute to the Loyalty Fund at a time which is appropriate to each recipient. Additionally, recipients will be asked to attend one to two events with alumni and friends during the academic year.
