Health Policy

The US spends $2.1 trillion (16% of GDP) on health care (compared to approximately 9.8% GDP in other developed countries), yet it has worse infant mortality rates and lower life expectancy. By 2017, health care cost will rise to 20% of GDP. The ushering in of a new president promises changes to our broken health care system. As Chair of the Policy Committee, you will be in charge of educating others about our current health care system (and the changes that we are to see) and directing health care policy related events/projects. Potential partners to help you get started include many of the faculty in the School of Medicine and School of Public Health, as well as UNC’s American Medical Association (AMA).
