AMSA's National Convention coming up in March. The official information can be found on the event website, but we wanted to provide important information on participation for UNC members and funding opportunities here.

We are very excited that it will be in DC this year and we are hoping to get a lot of UNC students to attend. For MS2s, it will fall at the end of the last Community Week. Unfortunately for MS1s, the conference falls during the end of your 3rd block - the MS1 final exam is currently scheduled for Friday, March 13th  1-3PM -- we would still welcome attendees to drive up after the exam, but we would also encourage those interested to consider rescheduling the exam for earlier on Friday if possible, so you can arrive for Friday night's activities in DC.

Every year, AMSA@UNC tries to help UNC members pay for registration and lodging for National Convention through holding a residency fair as a fundraiser (this year's will be at the beginning of April). However, we wanted to let everyone know that there are several opportunities for getting your registration fee waived:

    * UNC has a few nationally elected leaders and these members will
get their fees waived already (National Convention is the place to
look for leadership and advocacy opportunities if you are so inclined)
    * We are looking for an MS2, MS3, or MS4 student who will represent
UNC at this year's medical school fair where you will represent
our school to the many eager pre-meds attending the conference
(UNC helps fund this person's attendance)
    * If you have a poster that you would like to present (and compete
with) at this year's convention, apply to take part in the poster
session ( and you will be
eligible to apply for UNC Graduate Professional Student Federation
(GPSF) funds to attend the conference which can help cover your
    * For those committed to coming to AMSA, you can have your
registration fee waived by serving on one of 3 potential
committees that help run some of the essential functions of the
      national convention ( Reference
Committee members help review and revise proposed resolutions for
the House of Delegates; Nominations Committee members help
coordinate the nomination and election process for those seeking
national elected office; and Credential Committee members help run
and officiate the running of the House of Delegates.

If you have any questions about this process or already know that you would like to attend, please email Mia Yang (

In addition, Mia, Amy, Charita, and Jonathan attended last year's annual conference in Houston, TX, so if you have any questions about what goes on at conference and why it will be fun for you to take part, please send one of us an email (
