The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is an organization which functions at the local, national, and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women's health.  The American Medical Women's Association empowers women to lead in improving health for all within a model that reflects the unique perspective of women. We achieve this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and through building strategic alliances.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill chapter of AMWA is open to all affiliates (women and men!) of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.  Our specific chapter goals include:
  • Empowering local women in medicine through education and professional relationships
  • Working as advocates to improve the health of all women
  • Providing opportunities for leadership and ways for members to get involved in the community
  • Serving as an umbrella organization to coordinate local resources and collaborate with other groups
