The purpose of this meeting is to provide Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) an up-to-date refresher on current research relevant to the practice of anesthesia. The goals of the CEU activity will be accomplished with lectures and discussion. The ultimate goal is to provide participants information to improve the quality and safety in the care of surgical patients requiring anesthesia.

This course has been prior approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 7.0 Class A CE Credits; Code Number 1037185; Expiration Date: 3/9/2019.  AANA designates this program  as meeting the criteria for up to 0.25 CE Credits in Pharmacology/Therapeutics.

Course Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify the available resources for the anesthesia during a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI).
  • Participants identify current methods for reducing perioperative narcotics.
  • Participants will discuss the pros and cons of sugammadex when compared to classic reversal agents.
  • Participants will identify management techniques of the pediatric airway during airway evaluations.
  • Participants will learn alternatives to narcotics for T&A surgery in the pediatric patient.
  • Participants will discuss tax and insurance concerns for the contracting CRNA.
  • Participants will discuss reasons why shortages occur and prevalence in practice.
  • Participants will examine new US applications being used in the perioperative area.
