Selection Process

Applicants must complete an Application for Appointment to the Housestaff of The University of North Carolina Hospitals, and provide a personal statement, curriculum vitae (CV), a copy of their medical school transcripts, and letters of recommendation (see below). Requirements for further consideration of the application are that the applicant (1) holds an M.D. degree or equivalent, (2) will have completed an accredited residency program in anesthesiology prior to beginning the fellowship and (3) demonstrates the ability to provide care in anesthesia and an interest in achieving excellence in academic and clinical pediatric anesthesia.

Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship

Duration of Fellowship: 12 months

In addition to your application, the following items will be needed:

• An official copy of your medical school transcript should be sent to us directly from your medical school Dean's Office
• A letter of reference from your anesthesiology program director
• A second letter of reference.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• A personal statement.
• The application package, personal statement, letters, etc., should be sent to Dr. Robert Valley at UNC-Anesthesiology Department, N2201 North Wing, UNC Hospitals, CB #7010, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7010.

Beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year, applicants will need to register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The NRMP website is www. NRMP.org

Important: Interview days for 2013-2014 will be February 13, March 5 & 19, April 2 & 16 and May 7, 2012.  All interviews will be on Mondays.  We will provide hotel accommodations for Sunday evening and lunch on Monday. Selected candidates will interview with the chairman or a vice chairman, the program director and members of the pediatric anesthesia faculty.

The match for Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowships positions for 2013-2014 has been moved to the fall of 2012. The match will open 5/9/2012, Rank Order List will open 8/1/2012, Quota Change deadline will be 9/5/2012, the Rank Order List closes 9/19/2012 and Match Day will be 10/3/2012. We may extend our interview dates beyond May 7th depending on the interest in our program.
