Selection Process

Applicants must complete an Application for Appointment to the Housestaff of The University of North Carolina Hospitals or you may submit the standardized Application for Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology. Applicants must also provide a personal statement, curriculum vitae (CV), a copy of their medical school transcripts, and letters of recommendation (see below). Applicants must hold an M.D. degree or equivalent, have completed an accredited residency program in anesthesiology prior to beginning the fellowship and demonstrate the ability to provide care in anesthesia and an interest in achieving excellence in academic and clinical pediatric anesthesia.

Duration of Fellowship: 12 months

In addition to your application, the following items will be needed:

 
• An official copy of your medical school transcript should be sent to us directly from your medical school Dean's Office
• A letter of reference from your anesthesiology program director
• Two additional letters of reference.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• A personal statement.
• The application package, personal statement, letters, etc., should be sent to Dr. Robert Valley at UNC-Anesthesiology Department, N2198 North Wing, UNC Hospitals, CB #7010, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7010.

Applicants will need to register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The NRMP website is www.NRMP.org

Important: Interview days for the 2014-2015 fellowship year will be March 25, April 8 & 22, May 13 & 20 and June 10, 2013.  All interviews will be on Mondays.  We will provide hotel accommodations for Sunday evening and lunch on Monday. Selected candidates will interview with the chairman or a vice chairman, the program director and members of the pediatric anesthesia faculty and fellowship program.

The match dates for Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowships positions for 2014-2015 will be posted here as soon as they appear on the NRMP website. The match will open in May 2013 and Match Day will be in early October 2013.
