Chief Resident Welcome

Welcome to UNC Anesthesiology! We are excited you are interested in our program and want to share with you some of the reasons why UNC is such a special place to train.

From the first day of residency, you feel like part of a family within the anesthesia department. Our interns are provided with a variety of mentorship opportunities, monthly lunches with residents and faculty, social events of all kinds throughout the year, and of course several clinical rotations within the anesthesia department itself.

This support continues throughout residency and beyond. Our faculty are easily approachable with clinical and non-clinical needs, and they are committed to our success throughout residency and our growth into excellent anesthesiologists. They provide formal and informal mentorship on a daily basis. The department’s commitment to our personal and professional growth over these four short years is one of the many reasons why we all love training at UNC.

In addition to the amazing support we have from faculty, we also build strong, long-lasting relationships with our co-residents. We regularly get together outside of the hospital to enjoy the food, breweries, and outdoor scenery Chapel Hill and the surrounding area has to offer. We are nestled in the perfect location between the mountains and the beach. We also love tailgating together before football games in the fall, and of course, cheering on the Tarheels at basketball games in the spring.

The education we receive at UNC is among the best in the nation. As a large, academic state hospital, we care for a diverse and complex patient population. We receive a large breadth of clinical training that begins on the first day of residency. Our intern year consists of rotations in internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, surgery, and critical care medicine to facilitate our growth into capable anesthesia residents. Our clinical anesthesia years are filled with a strong educational curriculum, topnotch simulation, and robust mentorship. Our world-class faculty are dedicated to our education, training, and research endeavors. We know that when we leave UNC we will be prepared for our next career steps, whether that is fellowship or general practice.

These are just a few of the many reasons why we chose UNC and love training here.  We encourage you to reach out to any of us with questions about our program. We hope to meet many of you soon, and go Heels!
