Session 3: Teaching High Value Care

Synopsis

The session will focus on how to best teach High Value Care. Mastery will help us better teach these skills and also use these skills in our own care of patients

Outcomes

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the key elements of HVC and the importance of understanding value in in the effective practice of medicine.
  2. Describe the existing efforts to promote of HVC in medical education and practice.
  3. Evaluate HVC delivery in their practice setting to their identified area of expertise or interest.
  4. Articulate an action plan for improving their practice and instruction in HVC as their training progresses.

Activities

1. Participate in an exercise focused on labeling care as high or low value

2. Explore resources to promote HVC geared towards medical education

3. Reflect on your own teaching and explore opportunities for introducing value based education into your teaching
