SEMINAR: Jun Qin, PhD (Baylor, College of Medicine)

April 17, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Abstract: As the performance of mass spectrometer and large-scale protein sequencing has been improved over the last few years, pushing the proteome analysis to the level that is compatible to mRNA-seq. Now it seems that proteomics has established its technology platforms to rival genomics and transcriptomics. Proteomics has the ability to catch dynamic pathways that response to biological processes. Proteomics sets itself apart from other omics that it offers multi-dimensional data and provides direct information on what is happening inside the cell. China is at the leading edge of catching the wave of rapid development in proteomics. We will utilize recent development and current capability of proteomics for biological research and aim on future direction of proteomics for Precision medicine.

Our study presents a proteomic landscape of individualized medicine of tumor patients. It provides a rich resource for determining the major pathway alterations in cancer, and demonstrates the advantage of understanding cancer in the context of tumor microenvironment at the proteome level. How to translate these data and information into clinical practice and care will be the future direction for cancer research. It can be envisioned that measuring proteome will become an indispensable step in the clinical cancer research and precision medicine.
